Not All Research Happens Online

Sometimes it is best to crack open a hardcover book and deep dive into new knowledge about genealogy

Have you noticed you cannot find your ancestors online? Or have you come across the fact that you have to pay to see certain genealogy records on websites?

Some of the best ways to locate your ancestors can be found in your local genealogy library.

For instance, in our genealogy library we house over 6, 000 family books. microfilm newspapers for Jones County, and family files. These items are not available for checkout and must be used in the genealogy library.

One of my must have genealogy books is a book by Elizabeth Shown Mills, Evidence Explained. This book is a definitive guide to the citation and analysis of historical sources. It is a guide that is so thorough that it leaves nothing to chance.

Another well used research book is The Researcher's Guide to American Genealogy by Val. D. Greenwood. Published in 2017, this is arguably the best book ever written on American genealogy. It instructs the researcher in the timeless principles of genealogical research.
