If you are researching your family history in Jones County, some of the most interesting clues may be found in an unexpected place—the pages of an old school annual.
Our library’s genealogy and local history collection includes a wonderful assortment of school annuals that provide a glimpse into the lives of students, teachers, families, and communities from generations past. Among our most valuable resources are the annuals from the Jones County School District, including Laurel High School annuals dating back to 1913. Our Laurel HS- Watkins - Gardiner High annuals cover the period from 1913-1915 and 1948-1997. We have high school yearbooks for all the Jones County Schools with the exception of Oak Park.

A Snapshot of School Life

Laurel High School: A Collection Spanning Generations
One of the highlights of our collection is our series of Laurel High School annuals, beginning in 1913. These early volumes offer an opportunity to look back more than a century and see how education and student life changed over the decades.
For anyone with family connections to Laurel or Jones County, these annuals can be a wonderful resource. They may help put a face with a name found in a census, newspaper, family Bible, obituary, or other genealogical record.
