Research your county of interest carefully. There may be two county seats. Jones County is one of these counties. There are ten counties within the state that have two county seats: Bolivar, Carroll, Chickasaw, Harrison, Hinds, Jasper, Jones, Panola, Tallahatchie, and Yalobusha.

Check for the founding dates of the county and the county seat. For instance, Ellisville, our first county seat, was formed in 1826, and Laurel, the second county seat, was formed in 1882.
