You need the following supplies to make the grade in your genealogy research.
Forms and worksheets are essential for your research. These forms can help you record and organize key names, dates, and events that you discover during your research.
A Research Log - If you feel as though your research is repeating itself, you will benefit from creating a research log. A research log is simply a place to record what you have researched, when you researched it, and the results of your research. Using an app such as OneNote, https://www.onenote.com/?public=1&wdorigin=ondcauth2&wdorigin=ondc, or Evernote, https://evernote.com/, will make your research log searchable. FamilyTreeMagazine, https://familytreemagazine.com/freebie/researchplannerandlog/, also has a free planner template you can download and use for free. All you need to do is fill in your email address, and they will send you a link to download the form.
An organization system - While this is not a physical object, organization is the key to keeping your genealogy research in order. Making the decision on how to name your files and folders is a good starting point. By having an organizational system in place, you will prevent losing any hard-earned data and make it easier to find later on.
Please do not get discouraged if it takes you some time to set up and prepare everything for your research. This is not something you can do in one night. There is an excellent book, The Genealogist's Guide to Getting Organized, that offers helpful tips on how to take small steps towards the organizational method that best suits you.
