Greetings from LCJLS Genealogy,
The Jones County Genealogical and Historical Organization—JCGHO—has two exciting events coming up you won’t want to miss.
First, join us for our monthly meeting this Saturday, February 28, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Laurel-Jones County Library auditorium.
This month’s program features a special panel discussion, “Lineage Societies and You,” with representatives from the Colonial Dames of America, Order of First Families of Mississippi, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Mississippi Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Guests are encouraged to bring a written question for the panel.
As part of our 30th anniversary celebration, all nonmembers who attend this February meeting will receive a free one-year membership. If you’re interested in genealogy or local history, this is a great opportunity to get involved.

Our second event is the Genealogy Workshop for the Piney Woods, happening March 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., also in the library auditorium.
This workshop will feature:
Jennifer Brannock, archivist at McCain Library and Archives, speaking on family history resources available in Special Collections at USM
Historian Mike Bunn, discussing early migration to the Old Southwest in the years spanning 1798-1840
Dr. Susie Burroughs, sharing highlights from the RootsTech Conference 2026 held in Salt Lake City, Utah
Registration is required, and space is limited so register soon to ensure a spot. The cost is $25 and includes refreshments and a box lunch. In addition, JCGHO and Mike Bunn will have books available for purchase.
