Time Capsule

Have you considered making a time capsule with your family? This is not only a fun way of celebrating your family history but also preserving it for future generations.

Here are some tips on creating a family time capsule.

· Gather the items you wish to place in the time capsule - this could be a family photo, newspaper clippings, your prediction for the future, your family tree, an old cell phone, your favorite recipe, a menu to your favorite restaurant . . the list is endless.

· Have a good container, preferably one that can be sealed

· Use acid-free paper - have family members answer a questionnaire. Create a sheet with questions such as "Who was the President of the U.S. when you were born?" "Who was your favorite teacher in school?" "Where did you attend school?"

"What was your favorite subject in school?" Any questions you want to ask are perfectly fine. This is, after all, your family history!

· You will need to purchase some silica gel packets to absorb any moisture in the time capsule

· Paraffin or candle wax to seal the capsule

Now you are ready to create your time capsule.

· Determine an opening date and storage location for your time capsule. You should record this date so that all family members can have access to it.

· Select your container. The container must be large enough to hold all your mementos and be able to protect against dust, light, and handling. Plastic, metal, and glass are good choices.

· Put your keepsakes inside. Place the heaviest items on the bottom. Place the gel pack inside.

· It is not necessary to bury the time capsule in your backyard. This archive should be stored in your home where temperature and humidity are consistent. Be sure to store glass or plastic containers away from light and heat. If you are using a glass container, you can seal the lid with paraffin or candle wax. Please let an adult handle this part of the sealing of the time capsule, as the wax will be very hot.

Now the fun begins. You must wait until the opening date you selected with your family before opening your time capsule. HAVE FUN ! ! ! !
